"For more than 30 (37?) years Glen proudly served as member of the United States Navy on active duty and in the reserves rising in the enlisted ranks from Seaman Recruit through Chief Petty Officer as a Damage Controlman, responsible for maintaining a ship’s watertight integrity—in his case, it was an aircraft carrier—or as he liked to say “keeping the water on the outside and the people on the inside.”

In his post-seminary years he received a commission as an officer and chaplain and served twenty years with Navy and Marine Corps units throughout the country. Those he served with have characterized his Navy ministry with the words “enthusiasm,” “dedication,” and “loved the Navy.” As a chaplain he would take any assignment anywhere and when there was some down time he would read his Greek New Testament. He loved everything about the Navy. There is no prouder veteran than Glen."
